Bathroom & Shower Tile
Waterproofed showers, full bathroom remodels, and custom details in Atlanta homes.
Bathroom Tile Done With Attention to Water
A shower is the most technically demanding tile application in a home. It is the only room where tile faces direct water every day, where the substrate behind the tile must be completely sealed, and where a single failure point can cause damage that goes undetected for months. We approach every shower installation with that reality in mind.
Before any tile goes up, we verify the waterproofing layer. On new construction or full demolition remodels, we apply a sheet membrane or liquid-applied membrane to the shower pan, walls, and any transitions. The membrane gets flood-tested before tile starts. That step is not always done by every installer, but it is the step that prevents the call two years later.
The Process, Step by Step
- Demo and substrate inspection. We remove existing tile and check the backer board or concrete board for moisture damage. Damaged sections are replaced before waterproofing begins.
- Waterproofing application. Membrane applied to the shower pan, all four walls, and the curb. Corners and seams get fabric reinforcement embedded in the membrane. Flood test before proceeding.
- Layout planning. We determine the tile layout on paper first. For a shower, this means centering the field tile, planning niche placement to land on full tiles where possible, and deciding where accent strips or pattern breaks go.
- Setting tile. Large-format tile is back-buttered in addition to troweling the wall to ensure full coverage. Leveling clips maintain consistent joint width and eliminate lippage across the field.
- Grouting and caulking. We grout the field joints and caulk all plane changes. The color selection for grout affects how the finished shower reads visually. We can show you color samples before we commit.
Details We Handle
Recessed niches, built-in benches, linear drains, diagonal shower floors, accent strips, and frameless glass door rough-ins are all part of bathroom work we handle regularly. A niche framed properly sits flush with the wall tile and has a consistent grout joint around its perimeter. One that was not planned correctly shows at every corner.
