Residential Tile Installation

Floors, fireplaces, entryways, and living spaces throughout Atlanta homes.

What Residential Tile Installation Covers

Residential tile work spans more of a home than most people initially consider. The obvious areas are bathrooms and kitchens, but we also install tile on living room and dining room floors, entryways, fireplace surrounds, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and covered porches. Any surface that benefits from a hard, durable, water-resistant finish is a candidate for tile.

In Atlanta's older bungalows and ranch homes, tile is often the right choice for areas that have had moisture or durability problems with other flooring types. A tile floor in a laundry room or entryway handles Atlanta's humidity and foot traffic in a way that wood or vinyl sometimes cannot over time.

What Happens Before the First Tile Goes Down

Substrate preparation determines whether a tile installation lasts. For floor work, we check the subfloor for deflection, flatness, and any soft spots. Industry standards call for no more than 3/16 of an inch of variation over a 10-foot span for most tile, and stricter tolerances for large-format tile. Where the floor does not meet that standard, we use a self-leveling compound to bring it into spec before setting tile.

For wall applications like fireplace surrounds or accent walls, we assess the backing material and anchor it properly before applying thinset. Ledger stone panels, like those used on fireplace surrounds, require a mortar-based adhesive and often a scratch coat to ensure full coverage behind the irregular stone surface.

Materials We Work With

We install porcelain, ceramic, natural stone (travertine, marble, slate, limestone), glass tile, and large-format porcelain slabs. Each material has its own handling requirements. Natural stone needs sealing after grouting. Large-format porcelain requires back-buttering the tile in addition to combing thinset on the substrate to achieve full coverage and avoid hollow spots. Glass tile calls for a white thinset to avoid color showing through the translucent face.

Patterns and Layout

We lay out the tile pattern dry before setting anything. This step catches problems at corners, doorways, and any interruptions in the field. A well-planned layout avoids having a sliver of tile at the most visible edge of a room. For diagonal patterns, the layout starts from the center of the room and works outward. For herringbone, we establish a centerline and work symmetrically from it.

Where We Serve

We install residential tile throughout Atlanta's southwest neighborhoods. If your home is in West End, Capitol View, or Adair Park, we are already working nearby and can come out for a site visit quickly.
