White Subway Kitchen Backsplash in Adair Park

This kitchen backsplash in an Adair Park bungalow was installed as part of a kitchen renovation with white shaker cabinets and a wood butcher block countertop. The tile is a standard white ceramic subway tile in a running bond pattern. The client chose white grout to keep the surface reading as a continuous plane rather than emphasizing the individual tile grid.

White grout on a white subway tile requires extra care during grouting. The grout is harder to see once applied, which means joint fullness has to be checked by feel rather than by sight. We also sealed the grout after curing to make it easier to clean in a kitchen environment. The tile run extends from the counter to the underside of the upper cabinets, with the open shelf section tiled behind the shelves to the same height.
